A Well for El Barro AND Texas Water Mission's Annual Wine & Water Dinner!

Children at El Barro, a rural community in SE Honduras, learning about health, hygiene and planet. Anytime TWM is preparing to install a well, the community is provided with a several day training that includes sanitary practices for the use of well water. The community is so excited about getting a new well that they sent representatives from every household to the workshop this week. A special program is provided for the children.

Today’s blog is two-fold. First, I want to share about the incredible trials and resilient spirit of the 520 residents of El Barro, a rural community I visited on my trip to Honduras in May. The Water Committee requested a well from Texas Water Mission last August and El Barro is now first on the list, pending funding. Because of dramatic climactic changes, the community’s natural source of water completely runs out during the dry season. Finally, a few weeks after the rainy season began in May, a forest fire spread to El Barro, destroying the above-ground piping bringing water to all of their homes.

The community is replacing water piping that burned when this slash and burn fire got out of control in May.

Vision Mundial, a worldwide organization providing clean water and education services, has agreed to install an electric pump in the well TWM will install at El Barro to ensure year-round access to safe water. The well, which must be 300-400’ deep, will cost $15K. If you would like to make a donation towards a well for El Barro, please click the button below, select Honduras when direct your payment, and make a note that your gift is for El Barro.

The other thing I want to share is that our annual fall fundraiser is on the horizon!

This year we will feature our work in Honduras and the Navajo Nation as we immerse ourselves in those cultures for an evening. You will enjoy flavors, sounds and visuals from each geography as well as products available for purchase. All proceeds go to support the organization and its projects. And here are the benefits of event sponsorship…
